Recovery
If you lose your devices, these are the only ways to get back in. Configure both — they’re independent.
Off-Grid seedconfigured · not verified
A 24-word seed encrypted to a key The Grid will never see. Stores nothing for you — write it down or save it in a password manager. The disaster-recovery escape hatch.

How recovery from seed works
Submit the seed → derive a witness → on-chain KmsRecoverFromSeed → wait ~5 min for finality → all keys rotate to a new primary DID you specify. The seed bypasses the social quorum. Whoever holds it can recover your account.
Social recovery5 guardians · 3-of-5
If you lose every device, 3 of these 5 guardians acting together can rotate your primary DID. There’s a 30-day veto window — protection against a hostile takeover.

What guardians can do
- Acting together (3 of 5), they can initiate a recovery — not perform one immediately.
- You have 30 days to cancel from any of your devices before the rotation lands.
- Guardians cannot read your data, sign for your keys, or see your activity. Recovery only.
Drill: simulate a lost-everything scenario
Once a year, walk through what would happen if you lost every device. The drill doesn’t actually rotate anything — just confirms each guardian responds and your seed unwraps.
